Katie Meyer (January 20, 2000 – March 1, 2022) was an American soccer player. She was the goalkeeper and captain for the Stanford Cardinal women's soccer team.
Meyer gained significant recognition for her athletic achievements, particularly her role in leading Stanford to the 2019 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, where she made two crucial saves in a penalty shootout.
Tragically, Katie Meyer died by suicide in March 2022. Her death brought attention to the pressures and mental health challenges faced by student-athletes. There was also some controversy regarding disciplinary actions she faced from the university that may have contributed to her distress. Her family has been vocal about the need for improved mental health resources for athletes.
